Plans for July

Having just started this blog, I'm about to go away for two and a half weeks, so there won't be much activity here at the beginning.

For the first week I'm going to be helping lead a music camp run jointly by Scripture Union Scotland and New Scottish. I did this last year and I'm really looking forward to it. Basically around 60 teenagers will descend on Lendrick Muir (near Kinross) and spend a week participating in music groups, outdoor activities (like go-karting and tree climbing), worship and bible study sessions. As a leader my job will be to help look after all of these activities which is both incredibly rewarding and incredibly tiring. There's a fantastic group of leaders going too, so all in all it promises to be a great week.

After that I'm heading off to Malawi. The presbyterian church there are holding a youth conference and invited the Church of Scotland to send two young people to it. It's being held in the Ekwendeni mission station, near Mzuzu in the North of the country. Not sure entirely what to expect at this but it should be an amazing week. The topic being discussed is "The Role and place of the Youths in the Church". One of the most interesting things will be to see the differences between this in the church here and in Malawi (and any other countries who have representatives there).

So that's what I'm doing for the rest of this month. I'll be back in August when festival season descends on Edinburgh.

First post

I've finally decided to take a leap into the unknown and establish my own presence in the blogosphere. I'm a regular reader of various blogs on subjects as varied as conducting, 20th century music, politics and BBC Sport, however I won't be blogging on any specific subject, just whatever takes my fancy on any particular day. The name of this blog comes from a comment in a sermon by Gilleasbuig MacMillan, minister of St. Giles' Cathedral in Edinburgh.
